Background of the Study

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a vital role in transforming education by enabling digital learning tools, online resources, and interactive platforms. In tertiary institutions, the adoption of ICT can enhance teaching methods, provide access to global knowledge, and improve student engagement. This study will investigate the impact of ICT adoption on academic performance in universities in Benue State, focusing on how the use of ICT tools influences student learning outcomes, academic achievement, and overall educational experience (Yusuf & Eze, 2024).

Statement of the Problem

Although ICT adoption has the potential to improve academic performance, many universities in Benue State still face challenges in fully integrating these technologies into the learning process. The impact of ICT on student performance remains unclear due to barriers such as limited access to devices, inadequate internet connectivity, and lack of training for both students and instructors (Aminu & Jibril, 2023).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of ICT adoption on academic performance in universities in Benue State.
  2. To explore the relationship between ICT usage and student engagement in the learning process.
  3. To identify the challenges that hinder the full integration of ICT in the education system.

Research Questions

  1. How does ICT adoption affect academic performance in universities in Benue State?
  2. In what ways does ICT improve student engagement and learning outcomes?
  3. What are the challenges associated with ICT adoption in tertiary institutions in Benue State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. ICT adoption significantly improves academic performance in universities in Benue State.
  2. The use of ICT tools enhances student engagement and learning outcomes in university education.
  3. There are significant challenges in the adoption of ICT in tertiary institutions in Benue State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on universities in Benue State that have adopted ICT for academic purposes. Limitations include challenges in accessing data on students' academic performance and potential biases in self-reported usage of ICT tools.
